The construction of Nsuura Seed School in Kyamukube Town Council is progressing steadily, with the project currently nearing the roofing level and approximately 50% complete. The school is one of the key investments under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UgIFT) Programme and is being constructed at a cost of Shs 2.5 billion (Shs 2,503,994,700).
The UgIFT Programme aims to improve the adequacy and equity of fiscal transfers and strengthen the fiscal management of resources by local governments, with a focus on enhancing health and education service delivery across Uganda. Nsuura Seed School is one of the beneficiaries of this initiative, and once completed, it will provide a fully-fledged secondary school with modern facilities for learners in Kyamukube and surrounding areas.
According to Mr. Samuel Nyaruhuma, the Bunyangabu District Engineer, the school’s construction is progressing according to plan.
“We are at almost at the roofing stage, which represents about 50% of the total project. With continued support and favourable working conditions, we are confident of completing the project within the scheduled timeframe,” Mr. Nyaruhuma said.
The school will feature essential infrastructure, including classrooms, science and computer laboratories, a library, administrative blocks, staff quarters, and vital utilities such as water and electricity. These facilities are expected to significantly enhance the quality of education in the area.
Mr. James Ategeka Mugarama, the Bunyangabu District Chairperson, expressed his optimism about the project’s impact.
“The completion of Nsuura Seed School will mark a turning point for education in Kyamukube Town Council. Many learners currently trek long distances to access quality education, but with this school in place, that burden will be lifted,” Mr. Mugarama said. “The school will not only bring education closer to the people but will also raise the standards of learning thanks to modern facilities and a committed teaching staff.”
The school is expected to be completed by the end of the 2024/2025 Financial Year. Once operational, it will serve hundreds of learners and reduce the pressure on existing secondary schools in the district.
Mr. Isagara Edgar, the Managing Director of Bresum Company Ltd., the firm contracted to undertake the construction, assured the public of timely delivery. “We are on course to complete the work within the agreed timelines. Our team is committed to maintaining high construction standards and delivering a facility that meets the expectations of the Ministry of Education and Sports and the people of Bunyangabu,” Mr. Edgar said.
The Nsuura Seed School project stands as a testament to government efforts to bridge educational inequalities and ensure that every child, regardless of location, has access to quality learning opportunities close to home.
