Multi-Million Projects Launched to Improve Education Sector in Bunyangabu

Several projects worth millions of money have been launched in different schools in Bunyangabu District, and they will be funded under the School Facilities Grant (SFG).

Among the key developments is the launch of constructing a chain-link fence around Kiyombya Seed Secondary School in Kiyombya Sub County, the construction of a new classroom block at Nyakatonzi Primary School, and the building of latrines at Bunaiga, Rwano, and Kibaate Primary Schools.

The others include renovation of classroom blocks and administrative offices at Kiryantama and Bukurungu Primary Schools.

Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bunyangabu, Mr. Robert Kamuntu, expressed his appreciation to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government under the leadership of H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He acknowledged the government’s unwavering commitment to improving the education sector in the district, noting that these projects are a testament to the administration’s dedication to fostering academic excellence.

“The NRM government has continuously prioritized education as a cornerstone of national development. These projects are part of the broader efforts to ensure that every child in Bunyangabu has access to quality education,” Mr. Kamuntu said.

He urged the community to take ownership of the projects, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding and maintaining the newly established facilities.

The Bunyangabu District LCV Chairperson, Hon. James Ategeka Mugarama, highlighted the role of local stakeholders in ensuring the success of these multi-million shilling projects. He called upon School Management Committees and Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs) to monitor the projects closely and ensure they are implemented as planned.

“The district, under my leadership, has done everything possible to improve literacy levels and provide access to quality education for our children. We have achieved this despite the challenge of limited resources. Now, it is up to the communities to ensure that these facilities are well-utilized and maintained,” said Mr. Mugarama.

During the ceremony, the Chief Administrative Officer, (CAO) Mr Nsubuga Isa Hood underscored the importance of commitment among teachers. He called for an end to absenteeism and urged teachers to be present and dedicated once schools reopen.

“We cannot achieve quality education if teachers are not in class. Absenteeism will not be tolerated,” he warned.

The SFG projects have been lauded as a significant step toward addressing longstanding challenges in the district’s education sector, including inadequate infrastructure and sanitation. By providing modern facilities, the district aims to create a more conducive learning environment that will encourage school attendance, improve academic performance, and ultimately enhance literacy levels. Parents and local leaders who attended the event expressed their gratitude for the initiative, noting that these projects will have a lasting impact on the education of children in the district.

As the district celebrates this achievement, stakeholders are urged to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring the sustainability of these projects. The collaboration between the government, school authorities, and the local community is expected to serve as a model for other districts aiming to improve their education infrastructure.
