Empowering Futures: Handover of Startup Kits to Graduates of the Skill Up Training Program at Bunyangabu District Council Hall

Skill Up, a BMZ-funded initiative led by JESE (Joint Effort to Save the Environment) in collaboration with WHH (Welthungerhilfe), supported by the German Cooperation for Economic Development, is dedicated to addressing unemployment among vulnerable youth aged 18-31 in Bunyangabu, specifically in Kibiito T/C and Rwimi T/C. With the successful completion of two phases, training 130 individuals in various skills, we aim to empower the youth and enhance their employability.

Hon. James Ategeka Mugarama, Chairperson LCV Bunyangabu District, expressed gratitude to JESE for their hands-on programs. He emphasized the importance of providing startup kits to trainees, ensuring the continuity of acquired skills. Acknowledging JESE's understanding of the community's needs, he thanked the organization for extending another phase set to commence in July. The Chairperson pledged full support and advised the trained youth to work diligently, saying, "Mukozese ekimukwasiire, ebingi tibikukanya", and "Ekituuro kyonka nikyo kitandikira haiguru kugaruka hansi, ebindi byona bitandikira hansi". He urged them to persist, prioritize customer care, uphold truthfulness, and engage in continuous research for success. Hon. Mugarama also expressed gratitude to the youth for their respect.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) emphasized the significance of skills, stating, "They have trained you, then lobbed for you; please value these items. If you have a skill, it will take you to another level. A skill is very important. A country that doesn't engage itself in skilling cannot develop." These remarks underscore the critical role skills play in personal and national development, emphasizing the transformative power of acquiring practical abilities. The collaborative efforts of JESE, WHH, and the German Cooperation for Economic Development align with the broader vision of skill development for sustainable progress.
