The Project manager, Mr Ronald Mugume, explaining to district leaders and stakeholders the drainage system along the road.
Bunyangabu leaders and key stakeholders yesterday inspected the ongoing tarmacking works of the 1-kilometre road that leads to the district headquarters, under Kibiito Town Council, to assess progress and ensure quality implementation of the project.
The project, which is estimated to cost Shs 933 million, commenced in May 2022 and was originally scheduled for completion within the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 financial years. However, delays in the release of funds affected the initial pace of implementation.
According to the project manager, Eng. Ronald Mugume, the project has now resumed at full scale and is on track to meet its revised completion timeline. He explained that the scope of work includes site clearing, road shaping, watering and compaction, gravelling works, drainage channel construction, and double surface dressing with bitumen.
“The road will have two lanes and designated parking sections near critical institutions like the RDC’s office and Kibiito Health Centre IV,” Eng. Mugume said, adding that the contractor is committed to delivering a complete road by the end of August.
During the site meeting, Kibiito Town Council Mayor, Mr. Wilson Kabagambe, expressed optimism about the project's impact. “We have fulfilled all the conditions for the project, and we are hopeful it will significantly improve accessibility and service delivery,” he said.
Bunyangabu Chief Administrative Officer, Haji Isa Hood Nsubuga, commended the town council leadership for their cooperation and the progress made. “I appreciate the teamwork and assure you of our support wherever needed,” he said.
Hon. Amon Rutenta, the district secretary for works, production, and natural resources, applauded the local leaders for ensuring that the project remains on course. He urged continued vigilance in supervision to guarantee that construction materials are used appropriately and that the final output meets the expected standards.
The tarmacked road is expected to ease movement to key administrative offices, enhance access to public services, and boost the town's infrastructure development.
