Bunyangabu to benefit from UGX 4.3 Billion Projects by IRC

Today, January 29, 2025, IRCWash held an inception meeting for two projects aimed at improving water access, sanitation and hygiene in the districts of Bunyangabu and Kabarole. One of the projects is aimed at implementing the district’s WASH Programme while the other will focus on strengthening the WASH systems. Both projects are starting this month and ending in December 2027.

Under the project to enhance the districts’ WASH programmes, there are three key objectives. These are: increasing access to safe water services in selected areas in Bunyangabu; increasing access to water, sanitation and hygiene in public institutions like schools and health facilities and supporting integrated water resources management.

For strengthening WAS systems, the focus will be on strengthening the operation and maintenance of rural water services and enhancing the district WASH master planning by supporting documentation and publishing knowledge products for learning, among other activities.

During the meeting held at Kalya Courts in Fort Portal City, the IRC Country Director, Jane Nabunnya Mulumba, said it was in the spirit of transparency that they deemed it necessary to always update their partners, including the district local governments, on their fundraising efforts and gains.

“You sent us to look for money to improve water, sanitation and hygiene in Kabarole and Bunyangabu and here we are, telling you what we have managed to fundraise and what it will do,” Nabunnya said.

The Country Director also appreciated the technical staff from the two districts who provided data for proposal writing, saying their efforts were crucial for winning the grants.

In his remarks, the CAO Bunyangabu, Mr Nsubuga Isa Hood, appreciated IRCWash and their partners for adding to the government’s effort to ensure that communities access safe water and live in hygienic places.

“We are hopeful that these two projects will make a great improvement in the lives of people in Bunyangabu and Kabarole,” the CAO said.
